The True Story of Mount Rushmore |Potty Time with POTTYMINTS (Ep. 38)

Happy Presidents Day POTTY People!

There are few better feelings than waking up on a Monday…

…realizing it’s President’s Day Weekend

… and going back to sleep

We assume we are just like you, in that, we never really looked into Presidents Day..

We just sort of accepted the long weekend, and didnt ask too many questions…

We will admit that we subliminally thought: Did they make a mistake? We get a day off for what?!? Is this a joke?!

We would argue there is nothing more American than creating a National Holiday where we applaud you for doing your job…

It’s like those people that applaud a captain when a plane lands…  Why?

Landing the plane is literally their job.

For this week’s Main Story, we continue on our “Why?” journey - as we go to South Dakota, where we learn about the weird history of Mount Rushmore!

South Dakota… home to… ____________ (we honestly don’t really know…)

Well, that is precisely why South Dakota wanted to create an attraction that would bring in tourists, and hopefully generate some extra revenue for the state

And what better to bring people from near and wide… than a President’s face carved into a mountain?

Well… it turns out, the story is even wilder than we thought, but rather than tell you ourselves, watch this fantastic recap courtesy of the television show “Adam Ruins Everything”

Speaking of Rocks… Let’s Rock and Roll into this week’s Potty Picks!

“Oh, say… Can you see?”

Ahh, the national anthem… what a song

Surprisingly never even nominated for a Grammy award… the song is a beautiful reminder of our history and those that served this country

That being said, it’s a tough one lyrically…

“O’er the ramparts we watch, were so gallantly streaming?”

(... it’s going to be tough to make a tik tok dance to it is all we are saying)

As we all know, before any professional athletic event, the National Anthem is sung… and while we have seen many fails before… this one takes the cake

Enjoy this week’s… cringeworthy… Video of the Week

As you all know, for this section, we pick 5 songs for the week ahead, and add them to our “Potty Picks” playlist!

We try and feature some songs you’ve heard of, some you haven’t, some songs you’ll have to trust us on, and other that you forgot were some of your favorites!

This week we feature 5 songs that are sure to make you feel great!

Potty Time with POTTYMINTS| Bathroom Moment of the Week

While his bathroom moment may not have happened this week, we figured with it being Presidents day, we would share with you this absolutely true presidential fact!

Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States,  was one of our most unapologetic presidents.

Lyndon B. Johnson

He did things his own way… and didn't care what you thought about it.

One of his odd habits was to give interviews from the bathroom… while going to the bathroom.

Presidential biographer Doris Kearns Goodwin describes how "he just didn't want the conversation to stop.”

If you were in the bedroom holding back when he went into the bathroom, he would just call you in and say, “come on in, I haven't finished what I'm saying.”

Historian Robert Dallek’s biography, Flawed Giant: Lyndon Johnson and His Times, 1961-1973, describes Johnson’s “abuse of aides, shouting at them in public and calling them into the bathroom” while he sat on the toilet.

Honestly… we don’t care how busy you are… the conversation can wait… #gross

Thank you so much for reading this week’s episode of Potty Time with POTTYMINTS!

Even on a National Holiday, you took a moment to read a bathroom blog, and for that we truly thank you!

As you know, we are continuing our tradition for the month of February of concluding our blog with a quote from inspirational Black Women.

This week we feature a quote from the Greatest Female Athlete of All Time - Serena Williams.

Serena Williams

"I don't like to lose -- at anything -- yet I've grown most not from victories, but setbacks."

Serena Williams

We hope you have a fantastic Presidents Day Weekend and we will see you next week for another episode!

Happy Presidents Day!
