Welcome to our 60th Episode of Potty Time with POTTYMINTS!
Who would have thought the internet would provide enough bathroom related content to fill up 60 episodes…
If you have been along with us since episode one, we beyond appreciate it, and if this is your first time reading… Welcome to the Potty People!
To commemorate this momentous occasion, we found a story that we think is truly deserving of our Main Story of the week for such a moment…
For this week’s Main Story, we introduce you to Graham Askey who has spanned 91 nations and 75,000 miles in a marvelous quest to find…
…The World’s Worst Public Toilet
Graham Askey, or as he is otherwise referred to by his friends… “the king of porcelain” is a professional “squatter spotter”
You see Askey is the author of the book: “Toilets of the Wild Frontier” which gives readers a tour of 10 rarely-visited countries dotted across Asia and Africa to view that most ubiquitous of facilities: the bathroom
Among his many travels, he has encountered it all…and we mean it all!
Bathtubs being used as toilets in China…
Sinks being used in Bangladesh…
But the worst… the worst of them all… Tajikistan
“...the toilet in Tajikistan has to be the worst in the world — it is the perfect hell hole,” Askey, who hails from Brighton, England.
“With no toilet paper available, the builders have conveniently built it with a fabric covering to offer wiping functionality — and it looks like the locals have made full use of it!”
G-R-O-S-S!
And while these situations are grotesque in nature… it is important to note that 4.2 billion people live without "safely managed sanitation" and around 673 million people practice open defecation - so for many, this is one of their only options.
While many of you reading this will think to yourselves… “what a crappy hobby!” (#punintended)
You have no idea… because Graham Askey has actually spent about $169,000 to this point on investigating toilets
$169,000… for a toilet hobby
So for the sake of Graham’s wife… and the future of their marriage… please purchase his book (haha)
Enough Potty Talk, lets get into this weeks Potty Picks!

__
We have said it before, and we will say it again - Thank you, not just for reading but for everything!
You know… few people voluntarily decide to work in the toilet industry
And while we have often struggled with accepting it in the past - we are so beyond proud to be in it now!
While many businesses closed their doors over the pandemic, you stuck with us - you kept our lights on and the toilets flushing!
We are beyond grateful for each and every one of you, and we have so much exciting stuff to show you in the coming months.
We assure you, this is only the beginning for POTTYMINTS… and while we can’t tell you much just yet…
…trust us, the Potty People will be the first to know!
BUT, before we leave you this week, to honor the Jewish New Year, we leave you with a quote from Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel:
"Let them be sure that every little deed counts, that every word has power, and that we can—every one—do our share to redeem the world in spite of all absurdities and all frustrations and all disappointments. And above all, remember that the meaning of life is to build a life as if it were a work of art. You’re not a machine. And you are young. Start working on this great work of art called your own existence."
Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
To all those celebrating, we wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year
… and to you not celebrating… We wish you exactly the same!
See you next week!
