Well… it’s official, Summer has packed its bags and left us… #ouch

Break out the Sweatshirts… because Sweater Weather is here! 

The leaves are beginning to change color, the weather is getting cooler which can only mean one thing… The pumpkins are coming! 

Pumpkin Spiced Lattes… Pumpkin Picking… Pumpkin Carving… or just decorating your home with pumpkins! 

We LOVE 🎃! 

But we assure you… you have never seen a pumpkin like this… 

For this week’s Main Story, we go to Anoka, Minnesota where we meet Travis Gienger and his 2,600 lb Pumpkin

The Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weight-Off, in Harvest Moon Bay, California… 

… the Super Bowl of pumpkins.

The biggest opportunity to go up against other huge pumpkins from around the world.

And the stakes are high… $30,000 in addition to the World Record Title and a potential Guinness World Record… 

But for Travis Gienger, the entire process starts 200 days before the event when he planted the pumpkin seed. 

Gienger has been growing large pumpkins as a hobby for the last 28 years.

“I started way back in the day. My relatives all gardened, and my Dad would grow Big Mac pumpkins which were pretty decent in size. I just kind of caught on to it,” Gienger said.

The pumpkin he is growing this year was started from the seed of last year’s world record pumpkin, he said, so he’s hoping the seed genes will help his luck.

Gienger currently holds the world record for the largest Jack-o-Lantern ever carved with a pumpkin that weighed 2,350 pounds. 

That same year he also set a North American record for the size of his pumpkin.

But with a new year, comes a new pumpkin…

… and this year, may his biggest pumpkin to date

In fact… it may be the biggest pumpkin… ever. 

The current world record pumpkin weighed in at 2,702 pounds…

And while the official weigh in is on Monday, October 10th… 

Gienger is confident saying: “I think it's got a shot and being pretty special”
